What triggered this? The firing of editor in chief of The Daily Illini, Acton Gorton over the publishing of the now infamous Mohammad Cartoons. The board of directors sent out a memo about the incident saying things like:
"following a thorough review, a report by a student task force of senior members of the staff, and a hearing with Gorton found that Gorton violated Daily Illini policies about thoughtful discussion of and preparation for the publication of inflammatory material."

However Gorton said that his "thorough review" amounted to:
"Last night'’s meeting before the board of directors took only about 10 minutes of the 30 minutes I was allotted to defend myself against the allegations levied against me. There were no questions. Just a curt dismissal after my statement. And I wasn'’t interviewed by the "student task force"."

On top of that, campus newspapers won't show the Mohammad cartoons, but The Sheaf proves that they are more than willing to offend Christians. Plus, even though the managing editor has handed in his resignation, no other action has been taken, aside from a small apology from the University President, and the paper.

"Evil" Glenn Reynolds also points out, "Though universities generally ban "hate speech," speech aimed at Jews and Israel is apparently excluded. San Francisco State, reports Laurie Zoloth, SFSU's head of Jewish Studies, has become a place in which blood libels and posters reading "Jews=Nazis" have become common." Also he goes into detail about an incident that occurred in 2002 at SFSU where Jewish demonstrators peacefully spoke about their lives. There were some 400 people who came for the event. After most of the crowd left, Palestinian protesters surounded the Jewish people screaming things like, "Go back to Russia, Jew." And, "Get out or we will kill you!" And "Hitler didn't finish the job." And when the administrators were told about the event, they claimed that there was nothing they could do. Read Glenn's commentary on Fox News for the rest.
