HWC Baseball Week 24 Recap

Well, The Man would disagree but once again, about all I can say is DAMN! You'll see why here in a few, but first, let's go over (for the next to the last time) how the league is scored.
The stats your team builds up are broken down into 12 groups. For batters, there are runs, homeruns, RBI‚’s, strike-outs, stolen bases, and battering average. For pitching, there are wins, saves, strike-outs, holds , ERA, and WHIP. When the week is done and the stats are totalled up, each one of those categories is a win, a loss, or a tie for the teams playing. So in a given week, you can have any combination of wins, losses, and ties that add up to 12.

On to the games! And as a reminder, here were my predictions last week:
Predictions for Top Bracket:
I still think the championship game will be between Wookies and Cardinals with a Cardinals upset for the cup.
I think bRight will stomp over fm's spewers for 3rd.
I think that 5th place will be given to the winner of a draw between The Man and I.
Predictions for Lower Bracket:
I still think Akhtar will be #7 but now over the cats.
I actually think RFTR may beat the Glats for #9
and sorry Don, but you're going to finish last, with PAWs 11th.
I'm actually not going to start off with my own game this week, I'm going to go from order of rank, lower. There were 6 games this week, let's take a look.

Wookie Will Win - 8
bRight & Early - 1
bRight ran out of steam after "beating me" in a tie. This game was close in pitching, but not much else. Wookies dominated the hitting catagories, as usual, then sealed the game up with an average effort on the pitching side. Wookies as predicted are going to the Championship game with a full head of steam.
Game MVP: Rafael Furcal - 5 runs, 4 RBI's 3 homeruns and a stolen base. Talk about clutch.
Game Wash-Out: Craig Biggio - .067 batting average for the week, He was 1/15 batting the week, and that was a one run home run. He also fanned 4 times.

fmragtops spewers -6
Columbia Cardinals - 5
Don't let this game fool you. It was 9-2 fm almost the whole week. Safety man was slacking because he missed on multiple pitching decisions that would have swung the game in his favor. The only saving grace he had was a 3 HR night yesterday to give him some more offensive stats. That still couldn't top a lucky fm, as he is going into the money round vs. Wookies.
Game MVP: fmragtops - Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, and apparently lucky came out on top.
Game Wash-Out: Cardinals - After only having 5 losing weeks in the regular season, the Cardinals come out and losre their first playoff game.

Robots Eat Babies - 8
Baghdad Bombers - 4
This is another game not to be fooled by. This game may look like a blowout, but it was 6-5-1 the whole week, with the leader switching back and forth. The man had a strong night last night and took me to the house. The man will come home with a top 5 finish in the inagural HWC baseball league, and I just have to bow my head in shame.
Game MVP: Josh Willingham - 6 Runs, 6 RBI's and 3 homeruns while batting .364 for the week. Players liek that will win every time.
Game Wash-Out(s): Jim Edmonds/Jason Isringhausen - 2 star Cardinals out with injuries left me with no options. It was like trying to beat someone with cooked spaghetti.

RFTR - 8
webcats - 4
Since when did RFTR have any playoff luck? This guy went the role of the Mets in Football and after going 6-0 flopped in the end of the season. Now he can't lose in the playoffs. Where did that come from? This game wasn't even really close. The stats won by each team were won big.
Game MVP:Ramon Hernandez - 9 Runs, 5 RBI's 2 Homeruns and batted .429 for hte week. Stellar performance.
Game Wash-Out: Raul Ibanez - Yes, he got a homerun and some other stats, but the other stats included 9 K's. Yuck.

Akhtar The Divorcee - 6
The Glat-inators - 3 (Ties in Runs, HR's, and Holds)
Nothing really strong from either team. They both didn't really update their rosters . Akhtar just ended up on top, as expected.
Game MVP: Torii Hunter - 9 RBI's, 6 Runs, 3 homers, and 2 swiped bases. Very nice.
Game Wash-Out: The Coaches. It's playoff time. Roster updating is VITAL.

The PAWs - 9
Poca Dots Blog - 2 (Tie in saves)
This game wasn't even close. Cutting your bench might be a great way to pick up upcoming stars, but at the end of the season it's nothing but suicide. I saw this coming a mile away.
Game MVP: Robinson Cano - 14 RBI's, 5 runs and 2 Home Runs. That's alot of Ribbies.
Game Wash-Out: Travis Lee - Even thoguh he's released since teh 10th, he hasn't played since September 1st, but still managed to stay as a starter for Surber.

This week there are only 4 matchups, and here's how I think they will end up
Now that The Cardinals are out, I think the Wookies are a sure bet to take the Cup over fm.
With the Cardinals struggling, I think this opens the door for bRight to come in and steal the Bronze.
I think RFTR may actually edge out the "leave it alone" Divorcee's for 7th place
And I think webcats will take the 9th place spot away from the Glats.
